SOUL DRIVEN

Artisan wines that illuminate the intangible spirit of Oregon.

AN INVITATION FROM THE FOUNDER

I am continuously falling in love with wine. The joy that comes from trying a wine with an unexpected food pairing (have you tried Champagne with fried mushrooms?) is transcendent. The excitement I feel from poring over a wine region map is difficult to explain. The awe from trying a beautifully made new varietal is indescribable. Each discovery in the world of wine adds a new layer of wonder.

For me, the key marker of a distinguished wine is soul. Does it have a soul? The best wines in the world do. They possess an ineffable magic that highlights the deepest expression of their terroir. They are felt more than they are smelled or tasted, while fully embracing their homeplace.

I was born and raised in the majestic state of Oregon. My roots go deep there. Once I was ready to create my own wines, I knew Oregon would be my focus. The diversity of Oregon, as expressed through iconic international varietals like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, is like no other place in the world.

While we study the science of what makes an exceptional wine – the climate, the soil, the vines, the grapes, the chemistry – defining the nature of a wine’s soul will continue to defy us. Like the age-old problem of mathematicians, we can’t square that circle. And this just-out-of-reach attribute of wine is ultimately what drives my passion.

Tomorrow I’ll discover a reason to fall in love with wine all over again. I hope you’ll join me.

You are invited to Open Soul.

The People

After obtaining his degree in enology and viticulture, Oregon-native Jordan Hostetter gained 10 years of invaluable experience working for Doubleback, Abeja, and XOBC Cellars. Driven by passion and curiosity, Jordan has returned to his Oregon roots in the creation of Open Soul. He works in concert with acclaimed winemaker Kate Payne Brown, who brings extensive experience with Oregon's diverse terroir.

The Place

Our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes are sourced from celebrated vineyards within the Willamette Valley. With biodynamic and sustainable farming practices, these vineyards radiate their distinctive terroir and have stood the test of time for 30+ years.

The Process

Our wines are made with the highest level of artisan care. Grape clusters are gently picked and sorted by hand, fermented in small vessels, and aged in separate lots.  Barrel-by-barrel blending decisions are finalized just before bottling.
